Glazed commercial buildings gain heat, glare and fading in summer and lose privacy all year round. Solar control film addresses all three from inside the building, with no scaffolding and no glazing replacement — and while we are on the glass, we can add the branded manifestation the space needs anyway.
Typical turnaround
5–10 working days from survey
Areas we cover
Glasgow, Rutherglen, Cambuslang, East Kilbride, Paisley and most of Scotland
Solar control films reject a proportion of total solar energy before it enters the room, cutting peak temperatures in south and west-facing offices and taking the load off air conditioning. They also block the vast majority of UV, which is what bleaches carpets, fabrics, stock and artwork over a few summers.
Glare reduction is often the reason people call. Where staff have blinds permanently closed against screen glare, film lets them open up again — daylight without the squint, and no more meeting rooms working in the dark at 3pm.
Choosing the right film for the glazing
Film selection is a glazing question, not just a performance one. Sealed double-glazed units, toughened panes, laminated glass and old single glazing all behave differently under thermal stress, and fitting an aggressive absorbing film to the wrong unit risks thermal fracture or seal failure.
We record the glass make-up, orientation, shading and internal use at survey, then specify a film that hits the performance target within safe limits — neutral, lightly reflective or mirrored on the exterior face depending on how much privacy and rejection you want.
Combining film with branding
The same glass usually needs manifestation for Approved Document M, and running both as one project saves a second visit and a second set of access arrangements. We fit the solar film first, then overlay cut vinyl or printed manifestation in the required height bands.
This is where the wider L4 group's specialist film background pays off: the handling discipline behind automotive film — clean rooms, controlled solution, no contamination — is exactly what large flat glass demands if you want a finish with no bubbles, creases or trapped grit.
What we specify
Neutral and reflective solar control films
Low-emissivity and thermal insulation films
Privacy, mirror and blackout films
Safety and anti-shatter film to BS EN 12600
Cut vinyl and printed manifestation overlays
How we deliver the work
1. Glazing and heat survey
We record the glass build-up, orientation and the problem being solved — glare on screens, solar gain, fading stock or overlooking — because each points to a different film.
2. Thermal stress check
Applying an absorbing film to the wrong pane of a sealed unit can crack it. We check pane type, edge condition and shading against the film manufacturer's thermal stress guidance before specifying.
3. Film and overlay specification
The solar film is chosen for its light transmission and heat rejection figures, then any branded overlay — frost band, logo repeat or printed graphic — is layered on top so performance is not compromised.
4. Installation
Wet-applied internally in most cases, with full frame masking, floor protection and a cure period explained to the building manager so nobody panics about haze in week one.
What affects the price
Every job is priced to the site, so we don't publish a fixed list. These are the main things that move the price. Send photos or measurements and we'll give you a clear, itemised quote.

Typical turnaround
Solar film projects are generally installed five to ten working days after survey, subject to film stock. Branded overlays add two to three days for print and cut. Curing haze clears within two to four weeks depending on weather.
What makes a good result
Film specified from published heat rejection and light transmission data, not guesswork
Thermal stress assessed on every sealed unit before quoting
Branded overlays applied over the solar layer so its performance stays intact
Frames masked and edges cut clean, with no light gap around the bead
Standards, materials and compliance
The detail we work to on every job of this type — checked at survey, recorded on the specification and evidenced on request.
Thermal stress assessment
Film specified against glass type, thickness, tint and shading before installation, so solar-absorbing film is not applied to a unit that cannot take it.
Performance data
Solar heat gain, visible light transmission and UV rejection figures supplied for the exact film specified, not a generic range.
Safety and security films
Impact-rated films available where glazing needs upgrading for occupant safety alongside solar control.
Frequently asked questions
Will solar film make the office dark?
Not necessarily. There is a spread of films from near-clear spectrally selective products to heavily tinted ones. We match visible light transmission to how the room is used.
Can film be fitted to double glazing?
In most cases yes, with the film chosen for the specific unit. We survey the glass make-up first, because the wrong film on the wrong sealed unit risks thermal stress.
Does it help in winter as well?
Low-emissivity films reduce heat loss through glazing, so they give some benefit year round. Standard solar film is primarily a summer heat and glare product.
Can you add our logo to the same glass?
Yes — that is the usual request. Solar film goes on first, branded manifestation over the top, all in one visit.
How much heat does solar film actually reject?
Depending on the product, between roughly 40% and 80% of total solar energy. We quote the manufacturer's figures for the exact film alongside its visible light transmission, so you can weigh heat control against how dark the room becomes.
Will solar film void the glazing warranty?
It can, if the film is unsuitable for the unit. We check the glass specification and the film manufacturer's compatibility guidance first, and supply the data sheet so you can clear it with the glazing supplier.
